How do I request materials from other libraries?
What is interlibrary loan?
You can request articles, books, and other materials not available at CWU Libraries through interlibrary loan. If you are looking for an item that we don't have, we will do our best to borrow the item for you from a different library.
Is there a cost associated with interlibrary loan?
No! Interlibrary loan is a free service for current CWU students, faculty, and staff.
How can I tell if the item I need is available at CWU Libraries?
After conducting a search in OneSearch, you will see one of these statuses under each title in the catalog:
These statuses indicate that the item is available at CWU Libraries:
- Available at Brooks Library (physical books)
- Online access (eBooks)
- Full text available (articles)
These statuses indicate that the item is not available at CWU Libraries:
- Check for available services (physical books)
- Local copy unavailable. Get it for me from other libraries (physical books)
- Get it for me from other libraries (articles)
How do I request an item through interlibrary loan?
First, use your CWU credentials to sign in to your library account. Click on "Sign in" on the horizontal gray bar on your search results page.
If the item you need is not available at CWU Libraries, follow these steps to request the item from a different library:
- Click on the status under the title to see your request options
- Under Additional Options, click on one of the blue Get It buttons, depending on whether you'd like to request a physical copy or a digital chapter/article scan.
- Read the information in the box, fill in the relevant details, and click Send.
What if I can't find the item I need in OneSearch?
No problem. At the top of your search results page, click on the link that says: Still didn't find what you need? Click here to send a request. You will be directed to a form where you can provide information about the item you need. The more details you provide, the more likely we are to find the right item for you.
How will I receive my requested item?
Once your item is ready, you will receive an email to your CWU email account. If you have requested a digital chapter or article, the email will include a link to download your item. If you have requested a physical item, the email will include instructions for pickup.
How long will it take for my requested item to arrive?
Since these requests are fulfilled by other libraries, we can't guarantee specific time frames. However, most digital articles and chapters are ready within 24 hours, and physical items are usually ready to pick up within 5 business days.
I don't live in Ellensburg. Can I still use interlibrary loan?
Yes! Digital items will be emailed directly to you, and you can request to have physical items mailed to you by replying to the email you receive when your item is ready.
