Who holds the copyright for items published on ScholarWorks?

Answer

The author of a thesis retains copyright to their original work. By submitting a thesis to ScholarWorks, authors grant the University a non-exclusive license to preserve, host, and provide access to the work through the institutional repository.

For legacy theses that were originally submitted in print prior to ScholarWorks, theses are digitized and made available as part of the University’s preservation and access initiatives. Copyright remains with the original author. The University makes every effort to review these works for copyright and privacy concerns prior to digitization and follows a notice-and-takedown policy if concerns are raised.

Authors or rights holders with questions, concerns, or requests for removal should contact scholarworks@cwu.edu.
